girls weekend

Although it seemed to Grace that our big weekend to the Miley Cyrus concert would take forever, it has come and gone. And wouldn't you know that the hotel we stayed in was just as big of a hit as the concert itself?! First there was unpacking and hanging and folding (for one night.) Then there was swimming and hanging by the pool. Grace and Megan just met this summer, but they became fast friends (as Megan's mom and I did years ago, back in the days of working at the bank.) And there's comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one with my hands full with an eight year old girl.

And it is nice to know, too, that they are still little girls (under all that attitude.) When Grace was making her several outfit changes, I noticed how funny it seemed that her blanket, from when she was a baby, and her possible concert outfit were sharing the same space.

A wise friend (with older children) once told me to make time to spend with your children. Set dates and make them a habit. This just might be one of the best pieces of parenting advice I've ever gotten. Individual time with each of my children is not only a goal, but a necessity. They need it and we need it.

More than half way through the concert, Grace climbed on my lap and rested her head on me. It's nice to be needed. It's good to hold hands and laugh. And it's great to be reminded.
